OCTOBER 4: REMOVAL OF DEAD SIMPLY ANNABETH LINKS
Welcome to All Annabeth, a tribute to The X Files' Annabeth Gish. Annabeth was new to many of us as Monica Reyes, but she is a versatile actress with a career spanning seventeen years to date, and she's still going strong. In this e-zine we look a little closer at the work of the woman who brought us Reyes. More zines are available from Xine.
History Of This Tribute
All Annabeth was the first Annabeth Gish site in Philedom, and as far as we know, the first dedicated Annabeth site on the web. The wonderful Gertie started All Annabeth back when Annabeth was first cast as Reyes in February 2001. I had first noticed Annabeth in the 1995 film The Last Supper, and I was delighted to come across her again. So when Gertie needed to let go of All Annabeth in mid-2001, we agreed that I would absorb it into my new site, Annabeth Anomalous (screenshot). (Khristine started the fabulous, now-defunct Simply Annabeth at about the same time as the site merge). Gertie graciously hosted the combined sites, and she hosts this site and its parent site Xine to the present day.
In 2002, Annabeth Anomalous went on the backburner while I concentrated on managing Thank You Annabeth (TYA), a fundraising program to thank Annabeth for her time with the show. We were able to take out a full-page Thank You ad in The Hollywood Reporter for Annabeth, and more importantly, raised something in the vicinity of $2000 for her chosen charity, the Children's Hospital of New Mexico (the exact figure is still being calculated).
Khristine was also part of the TYA team, and both our own sites went inactive as a consequence of our focus on TYA. A number of smaller sites sprang up, but there was no clear home base for Annabeth's fans. However, GishPhile took on the task of keeping us up-to-date on Annabeth's work, and now her site, All Things Annabeth is the leading Annabeth site on the web - a task she is handling with great aplomb.
What of Annabeth Anomalous? There is no need for me to duplicate GishPhile's efforts now that TYA is drawing to a close. But nor do I simply want Annabeth Anomalous to languish as an abandoned site in its former state. So I'm archiving Annabeth Anomalous' content, and some great new material as well, in this month's Xine as a standing tribute to Annabeth and her work. I'm reverting to the original name of All Annabeth as a mark of transition and a nod to our roots as the oldest Annabeth site on the web.
About Annabeth
Born in 1971 in New Mexico and raised in Iowa, Annabeth has been performing from a young age, but took time away from acting to get a BA in English. Since returning to acting, Annabeth has had feature roles in such movies as Mystic Pizza (for which she was nominated for Best Young Actress in a Motion Picture in the Young Artist Awards), Shag, Double Jeopardy, and The Last Supper. Monica Reyes was Annabeth's first recurring television role. Since the completion of The X Files, Annabeth has filmed Knots, which is now in post-production. Annabeth is engaged to long-time boyfriend Wade Allen.
Merchandise
By far the most Annabeth-friendly place to buy Annabeth-related merchandise is the Buy For Bethie Online Store, run under the auspices of Bethie Believers. This store is run on a commissions basis and the commissions are donated to charities Annabeth prefers. In addition, Annabeth merchandise often comes up in the usual places such as Ebay. Generally speaking, the main types of merchandise are videos and DVDs, however prints of promotional photos (especially X Files ones) come up from time to time, as do X Files trading cards, magazines, and second-hand press kits.
