LAST UPDATED: 3 DECEMBER 2003

3 December: Moved the site over to deslea.com. Many thanks to Gertie for hosting us the last year or so! I have another Xine in progress, Phile Anthropy, but that probably won't appear til February. Virtuosity inspired me to run a virtual series of my own, and of course, it's taking all my time. But I'll be back!

Welcome to Xine, the home of semi-regular X Files-themed specials in e-zine format. Xine is a project of deslea's eXegesis.

June/July Xine: Virtuosity

Virtuosity focuses on the various fan-created virtual seasons that are out there. In a plethora of fan-made virtual seasons, The X Files lives on - and there are a few new and not-so-new incarnations of it, as well. We profile ten virtual series, explain how they work, and provide help and resources to people wanting to write or produce one, as well!

May Xine: All Annabeth

All Annabeth is a tribute to The X Files' Annabeth Gish. Annabeth was new to many of us as Monica Reyes, but she is a versatile actress with a career spanning seventeen years to date, and she's still going strong. There's a history of Annabeth coverage at deslea.com, an introduction to Annabeth's fan base on the web, video clips, fan creatives and links, with all-new DVD screen captures from XF, The Way She Moves, and more!

April Xine: Immortal Beloved

Immortal Beloved focuses on late season immortals Knowle Rohrer (Adam Baldwin) and Shannon McMahon (Lucy Lawless). They're soldiers, bred and bound to the government who made them, predators driven by ambiguous ideology and duty. In this ezine - the first in a series of character and actor tributes - we delve a little deeper into who and what these fascinating characters are. There's character profiles, images and multimedia, fan creatives, transcripts, links, and extensive deep background information on the supersoldier arc, magnetite, their Marine background, and the 1983 Beirut bombing. It's a must-see for anyone reading or writing these characters or the William and supersoldier arcs.

Why zines?

I have too many websites to keep up with, and the pressure of maintaining them all is just too much. So I'm switching a lot of the existing tributes, as well as some new ones, to a zine format. Since they're intended to be one-off special editions, they'll be pretty static. That way, I can keep rolling out zines according to whatever has my greatest focus at any given time, without the pressure of keeping on top of ongoing news in the way expected of a comprehensive fan site. Future zines will focus on characters and actors, as well as aspects of the mythology.

Is this the end of eXegesis?

No. I'll still update eXegesis on a weekly-ish basis with my art, fiction, and anything that strikes me as particularly interesting. I will also continue to maintain my own creatives, Mimi Magic, and Blondie's Ratcave on a more-or-less comprehensive basis, as well as the fiction archives and possibly Leading Lady (undecided). Most of the others will eventually make the transition to static sites - zines, fanlistings, etc - and/or merge with sister sites. However, this doesn't mean there won't be new content. Each zine will have new content as well, and in some cases (for instance, Immortal Beloved) they will be almost entirely new.

How often will zines come out?

Well, the aim is to reduce pressure on myself, not increase it, so I'm trying not to pin myself down too hard. I'm aiming for one a month, although it's possible one will come out a bit early, one a week or two late. But if you're watching this page or eXegesis, you won't miss them.

Does this mean the zines will never be updated?

Not necessarily. If I happen to come across, say, an item of Robert Patrick memorabilia, I might scan it and add it to his zine. If that happens, it will be mentioned in the weekly update at eXegesis. But I'm not going to try and keep on top of everything he has done or will do. That's something I have been trying to do with the sites I have now, and it's become too stressful, and the whole thing has lost a lot of its enjoyment in the process. Xine aims to change that. A happy webmistress is a webmistress who sticks around.
